These courses are particularly designed to give the novice handler or those with dogs of limited experience the confidence and the ability to go into the shooting field fully prepared. The emphasis is on teaching you as the handler to train your dog. The course is open to all breeds of gundogs, or you can borrow one of ours.
Our aim is not to find the best handler, but simply to help everybody improve their dog handling ability. Most people arrive on the course with certain trepidation, but in a very short time all worries and nervousness will have been forgotten. We are well aware that the easiest way for handlers to get the best out of their dog is for everyone to enjoy themselves and forget about nerves.
The course consists of 3 days of easy down-to-earth training, without any psychological claptrap.
The first day will cover the basic foundation work, where we show you how to get on with your dog as if it was between 6 months and one year old, regardless of your dog's age.
The second day will involve steadiness and retrieving as well as teaching the dog to hunt close. Whistle work and the stop whistle are comprehensively covered throughout the course.
The third morning will be spent working on various exercises for steadiness, jumps and water work. The afternoon will be run as several simulated drives on a shoot to put into practice all the lessons learned. During this period every effort will be used to explain the various problems that might arise and how to overcome them. Our main aim is to help you improve any weaknesses in you and your dogs and your handling ability and as much time as possible will be spent on each individual to achieve this. Remember that the dog comes second and that you are the person being trained. However, if we come across a dog that has a problem, we will put it right and show you how we have put it right. At the end of each days training session there will be a DVD shown of that days work and a discussion on problems that have arisen. At the end of the course you will go away with practical tips and training advice to enable you to carry on your training at home. Should any problem arise we are always happy to provide subsequent guidance over the telephone at no extra charge. Hard work, a lot of fun and a great deal of satisfaction at the end of it.
